The number of associations holding fly-ins is slowing, as summer gets under way and Congress prepares to take off for the July 4 holiday. But a few groups will be on the Hill in full force this week.
The National Association for Music Education is sending state delegates and collegiate members on congressional visits Thursday. Nearly 200 delegates will be in Washington, D.C., for the group's National Leadership Assembly this week, while about 70 students will participate in the Collegiate Advocacy Summit. Also joining the advocates: "Baroque pop/rock" band San Fermin. The eight-member Brooklyn-based group will be presented with NAfME's 2015 Stand for Music Award Thursday evening.
More than 500 members of Associated Builders and Contractors will gather for the group's annual legislative conference. Meetings are scheduled with more than 80 congressional offices. Key priorities include: asking Congress to "reclaim" some of its regulatory authorities from several federal agencies, restricting the use of project labor agreements for federal construction projects; tax and health care reform. The week includes ABC's first annual Diversity & Inclusion Summit.
Also holding conferences and Hill visits this week: National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, NTCA—The Rural Broadband Association, and TESOL International Association—Advancing Excellence in English Language Teaching.
