The number of associations in the nation's capital will increase by one early next year as the American Apparel & Footwear Association plans to move its headquarters from Arlington, Va., to Washington, D.C.
The $5 million-revenue AAFA is located at 1601 N. Kent St. in Arlington. The association said in a statement the building that's currently its home would soon be demolished, so the group is using the opportunity to move into a new space closer to Capitol Hill.
AAFA didn't disclose the location of its new office other than to say it will be located in Chinatown. The new headquarters will be designed and branded as a "fashion destination"—a space that not only fits the association's needs operationally, but reflects the industry it represents.
"One of the goals of the real estate move is create a space that connects the creative culture of our industry to the culture of Washington, D.C.," AAFA CEO Juanita Duggan said. "What we envision is a highly-branded space for people to come to, one that will make a deep impression on Washington and our members."
AAFA plans to move into the new space in either December of this year or January 2016. The association had 22 staff as of 2013, according to most recent tax filings.
