Two more large food industry players are leaving the Grocery Manufacturers Association in what has been a string of departures from the group in recent months, Politico reported Wednesday.
Kraft Heinz Co. and DowDuPont—which manufactures food packaging—are both declining to renew their memberships in GMA, the publication reported. So far at least eight large food industry companies have either pulled out of GMA or announced plans to leave. The group has more than 250 members, according to its website.
The departures are largely driven by disagreements in how the food industry should respond to public pressure for healthier foods and transparent labeling. When Campbell Soup Co. announced last year it was leaving GMA, company CEO Denise Morrison said the decision wasn't financial but "driven by our purpose and our principles." Campbell later joined the Plant Based Foods Association, which formed in 2016 to represent companies that produce alternatives to animal products.
Other member departures include Nestlé, Mars Inc., Unilever, Dean Foods, and Tyson Foods Inc. http://politi.co/2FXBKb6
