About a dozen associations will get in some lobbying during fly-ins this week, the last before members of Congress start their long summer recess.
But first, the National Association of Landscape Professionals was out at Arlington National Cemetery Monday. Hundreds of NALP members were participating in the 20th annual Renewal & Remembrance; projects this year applying phosphorous, aeration, irrigation installation and tree cabling. NALP's Legislative Day on the Hill is Tuesday.
The timing is fortuitous for the American Association of Airport Executives and Airports Council International-North America, sponsors of the Airport Summer Fly-In. Lawmakers are expected to vote to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration this week. Hill visits are Tuesday and Wednesday.
The National Automatic Merchandising Association holds its second fly-in Tuesday and Wednesday. The event this year includes a "behind-the-scenes" private tour led by two former members of Congress, and the opportunity to donate children's school backpacks to military families through Operation Homefront.
Other fly-ins this week include ACCSES—The Voice of Disability Service Providers, the Alliance of Specialty Medicine and SIGMA—America's Leading Fuel Marketers.
