The National Association of Manufacturers has filed a court motion to withdraw from a lawsuit brought by 21 children against the U.S. government for allegedly not doing enough to fight climate change.
The lawsuit was filed last year by Our Children's Trust, a group set up to challenge U.S. climate change policy in the legal system. The suit claims the 21 children are being denied their constitutional right to a healthy climate system, according to the Washington Post.
NAM, the American Petroleum Institute and the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers joined the suit on behalf of the federal government. All three have opposed federal efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through regulation.
NAM filed a motion Monday asking to withdraw from the lawsuit. An association spokeswoman told the newspaper her group believes the Trump administration would strongly defend the case and therefore NAM no longer needed to be involved. API and AFPM remain involved in the case.
Trump, a climate change skeptic, has pledged to reduce greenhouse gas regulations. http://wapo.st/2rZ96j3
