The Motion Picture Association of America may soon shake up its organizational structure, but what won't change is the group's leader.
MPAA's members announced Friday they had extended the contract of CEO Chris Dodd to 2018. No additional details were provided.
Dodd, a former Democratic U.S. senator from Connecticut, was appointed head of MPAA in 2011. He replaced Dan Glickman, who led the group for six years.
Dodd earned more than $3.2 million in 2013, according to MPAA's most recent tax filings.
In a joint statement, MPAA's members called Dodd "an impactful leader and a vigorous champion for the industry." Dodd himself said he was grateful for the continued support.
"This is an exciting time of almost unparalleled creativity and innovation in film and television and I look forward to continuing to promote and protect that creativity, and the jobs of the men and women who go to work in this industry every day," Dodd said.
The contract extension comes amid reports that MPAA is considering a major retooling of its organizational structure, prompted in part by its slow response to last year's Sony Pictures hacking scandal. MPAA needs unanimous support from its six members before staking out public policy positions, which critics see as inefficient. Members have also questioned the cost of running the $62 million-revenue association and its 216 staff. http://bit.ly/1FLkqOO
