The National Music Publishers' Association announced Thursday it would soon create a new foundation to help aspiring songwriters.
Few details were provided about the NMPA SONGS Foundation, with "SONGS" an acronym for Supporting Our Next Generation of Songwriters. The association said the new organization would kick off this fall with a fundraising golf tournament near Washington, D.C.
The foundation will support aspiring creators with grants to continue their work and support music education. It will be chaired by NMPA CEO David Israelite, with charter board members including songwriters Kara DioGuardi, Jewel and Lee Thomas Miller.
The association also unveiled a redesigned website at www.nmpa.org. The site will be "a one-stop shop" for news about association events and feature both a blog written by Israelite and information on NMPA's policy positions.
