The Newspaper Association of America will close down its national advertising sales firm at the end of the month, media industry news site Poynter reported.
The Newspaper National Network is currently on track to lose more than $1 million in the first half of 2016, NAA Chief Financial Officer Robert Walden told participating newspaper groups in a memo. The New York City-based affiliate was started in the early 1990s as a means for advertisers to buy ads in multiple newspaper markets with a single order.
However, NNN may be on the verge of being eclipsed by Nucleus Marketing Solutions, a new company started by four newspaper chains that will allow also advertisers to purchase ad in multiple markets, although with an emphasis on digital content.
NAA CEO David Chavern declined to comment to Poynter about the decision to close NNN. Walden was not immediately available. The affiliate lists eight people on its management team on its website. http://bit.ly/1rnYxow
