The Outdoor Power Equipment Institute has purchased an office building in Alexandria, Va., and will move into the new headquarters in spring 2018.
OPEI is currently located at 341 South Patrick St. in Alexandria. The group's future headquarters is a three-story building at 1605 King Street formerly owned by the National Stone, Sand, and Gravel Association.
The group has been searching for a new space to accommodate its growth, OPEI CEO Kris Kiser said in a statement.
"OPEI has been dealing with a problem for a couple years now," Kiser said. "And it's a great problem to have: We've increased our membership and increased our member engagement to a point that we've outgrown our current location and meeting space."
The new headquarters will include a state-of-the-art conference center that can seat 50 people for in-person and virtual meetings. OPEI considered other locations during its hunt for a new home, but decided to stay in Alexandria because of the proximity to the D.C. Metro rail, Reagan National Airport and several hotels.
OPEI closed on its new location on Aug. 15. The group said the move represents a multi-million-dollar investment, although it didn't disclose terms of the deal. The association has retained OTJ Architects of Washington, D.C., for the project. http://prn.to/2fZxgcf
