Environmental activists projected animations of Pac-Man devouring corporate logos on the facades of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and American Petroleum Institute Wednesday night in protest of what they claimed was the corrupting influence both organizations have on U.S. politics.
The protest by Friends of the Earth and Oil Change International was part of a 16-day series of mass protests called Democracy Spring, which is being organized by many left-leaning activist groups. The use of Pac-Man was a play on the term Super PAC, with the groups using projectors to display animations of the video game character eating the logos of the companies that contribute to both business groups.
"Oil and gas giants like Chevron and Exxon hide behind API and the Chamber of Commerce to do their dirty work in the capitol," said Jon Fox, senior democracy campaigner for Friends of the Earth. "We hope to shine a bright light on the millions of dollars dirty fuel lobbyists spend to keep polluting the planet."
The environmental groups claim API and the Chamber have spent millions of dollars fighting environmental regulations and getting "anti-environmental" candidates elected to office. They also criticized the Chamber for supporting the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement. http://bit.ly/1VnGr2X
