A group of roughly 200 protestors held a rally outside the Washington, D.C., headquarters of Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America on Monday and at one point stuck "Medicare for All" signs on the front doors of the building, the news site Stat reported.
The protest was organized by several liberal-leaning health care and labor groups that support adopting a Medicare for All program championed by Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and a handful of other Democrats.
"I hate PhRMA," said Darius Gordon, a national field organizer with the Center For Popular Democracy, as reported by Stat. Drug makers "believe that they can stop us from passing ‘Medicare For All.' They are wrong. We will beat them. We will whoop their butts."
About 30 minutes into the protest, activists stormed the front doors of the office building—which is also home to retail stores and other businesses—and affixed Medicare for All and other protest signs to the glass using Band-aids. The protest came a day before the House Rules Committee was scheduled to hold a hearing on the policy.
PhRMA declined to comment on the protest when contacted by Stat. http://bit.ly/2GRN3DM
