Associations speak out at ethanol hearing Representatives from a variety of groups packed an Environmental Protection Agency hearing Thursday to either attack or defend a proposal to change the amount the ethanol that must be blended with gasoline. At issue is the Renewable Fuels Standard, which contains the blending requirements. Recently, EPA officials have suggested lowering the mandated amount of ethanol for 2014, in part thanks to critics who contend that many of the nation's gas stations and vehicles are not designed to accommodate the higher blends.
