Lawsuit airs dirty laundry in sweetener fight An ongoing legal battle between corn refiners and sugar producers over what constitutes "sugar" has made public the strategies each of the industry's trade groups have employed to discredit the other. Both The New York Times and The Washington Post have published stories based on documents uncovered as part of the trial, which pits the Sugar Association against the Corn Refiners Association. At issue is a 2011 lawsuit filed by the Sugar Association and its member companies against CRA for the latter's efforts to market high fructose corn syrup as natural alternative to sugar.
