API sues feds over ethanol requirements The American Petroleum Institute filed a lawsuit in D.C. District Court Tuesday seeking to overturn what it says are the Environmental Protection Agency's "unrealistic ethanol mandates." The lawsuit is the latest salvo in API's ongoing battle against the federal Renewable Fuel Standard, which requires ethanol to be blended with gasoline. According to the organization, the EPA not only issued its latest blending requirements nearly a year late, but required refiners to use 4 million gallons of ethanol for the current year despite only 142,000 gallons being available.
