Judge rules against associations in meat labeling lawsuit A U.S. district judge has ruled that the federal government can require country-of-origin labeling for meat products, dealing a blow to several associations that sought to block the program. The American Meat Institute and seven other meat and livestock groups sued the U.S. Department of Agriculture in July, arguing that the labeling program violated their members' First Amendment rights.
