Two California plastic recycling companies are pulling out of the Association of Plastic Recyclers because they believe the group isn't doing enough to support laws requiring the use of recyclable materials, the industry news site Plastics News recently reported.

Verdeco Recycling Inc. and CarbonLite Industries wrote in a joint letter that APR should speak more forcefully for minimum mandatory recycled content legislation like that recently enacted in California, which will require plastic bottles sold in the state to incorporate at least 50% recycled plastic by 2030.

"APR has not embraced fundamental changes in our industry and its position on minimum mandatory recycled content legislation is a prime example of why we have decided to leave the organization," the companies wrote.
Together the companies produce half the PET (polyethylene terephthalate) used in beverage containers in the U.S, according to Plastics News.

APR CEO Steve Alexander said he was disappointed in the companies' decision: "APR was the first plastics-related organization to support minimum recycled content mandates, and we have continued to advocate for recycled content throughout the years." http://bit.ly/2B5suBy
