The U.S. Chamber of Commerce headquarters in Washington, D.C., is getting a facelift as it approaches is 100th anniversary.
The Chamber announced Wednesday it has launched an 18-month restoration of the 97-year-old building's exterior. The project will include detailed maintenance and preservation services.
"Our building was built in the early 1900s through the financial support of business leaders and local chambers of commerce all over the country, seeking a strong advocate for the business community in Washington," Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President of Operations Justin Waller said in a statement. "Our construction partners are the best in the business and are committed to ensuring our building, designed by the architect of the Supreme Court, is fully restored to its original design."
The Chamber's headquarters is located on the corner of H and 17th Streets NW, just a short walk from the White House. The business group moved into the building in 1922.
Hartman-Cox Architects and engineering firm Simpson Gumpertz & Herger are overseeing the restoration. Grunley Construction Company is general contractor, Lorton Stone is the project's masonry trade and MGAC is project manager.
