A former American Association of Justice employee pled guilty in federal court Wednesday to embezzling nearly $250,000 from the trial lawyers association, the Washington Post reported.
Tamara Kukla, 47, of Plano, Texas, charged $248,755 in personal expenses on an association credit card from 2009 and 2011, claiming the charges were work related, according to federal prosecutors. She previously worked at AAJ as director of membership, according to her LinkedIn profile.
As part of her plea, Kukla agreed to restitution.
Prosecutors told the newspaper Kukla faces as likely sentencing range of 12 to 18 months for one count of interstate transportation of stolen property. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
An association spokeswoman declined to comment about the case when contacted by the Washington Post. http://wapo.st/2fjPSQd
