Connelly pushes the envelope for chemistry

CEO of American Chemical Society honored for innovations in engineering Tom Connelly walked into his office on a Monday morning in February to find a thick envelope—and a total surprise. Within seconds of ripping open the packet, the CEO of the American Chemical Society learned he had been elected to the National Academy of Engineering. The nomination and vetting process for members is secret, so Connelly didn't know he was even being considered. "I have spent my career as a chemical engineer, and have known so many great engineers who were elected to the academy," Connelly said.
