Heart association CEO search closed

The American Heart Association has reportedly selected a successor to M. Cass Wheeler, who is retiring as chief executive officer of the association effective Dec. 31. Sources say that the top spot has gone to Nancy A. Brown, the groups chief operating officer. Wheeler announced his retirement in July, capping 35 years with the national association and its affiliates, including 11 years in the top position. He was also promoted to the CEO role after serving as chief operating officer for 17 years to then-CEO Dudley Hafner.
