API recruits new leader from chemistry trade group

Jack Gerard, head of the American Chemistry Council, is preparing to take charge at the American Petroleum Institute, as Red Cavaney, API’s current CEO, plans to retire Nov. 1. Nels Olsen, managing director of the Washington office of Korn/Ferry International, led the search, which lasted less than a year. In an API statement, Rex Tillerson, CEO of ExxonMobil and current API board chairman, said his group would formally name Gerard as the next leader at its board meeting in October.
