Arguelles-Sabatier brings fresh perspective to anthropology group

Anthropology, the study of what makes us human, was Ady Arguelles-Sabatier’s passion as a child. The daughter of Cuban immigrants, raised in Miami, she grew up watching TV shows that presented American life in a way that looked different from her own, she said. Arguelles-Sabatier said she felt like she was straddling two cultures, until she took her first anthropology class in college and finally felt seen and validated.  Her childhood aspirations became a professional reality on July 31, when Arguelles-Sabatier became executive director of American Anthropological Association (AAA).
