Bainwol leaves RIAA to head Auto Alliance

Cary Sherman promoted to replace departing CEO at recording industry group Mitch Bainwol has resigned as chairman and CEO of the $52M-revenue Recording Industry Association of America to become CEO of the $29M-revenue Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, both groups announced Aug. 8. Bainwol has led RIAA since 2003. He will be replaced by the groups president, Cary Sherman, who is credited with playing a major role in RIAAs recent anti-piracy agreement with large Internet service providers such as Verizon and Comcast.
