CEO has led Arlington, Va.-based group for less than two years; reason for departure not given

Tom Dobbins will step down as CEO of The Aluminum Association at the end of October, after less than two years on the job, the association recently announced in a message to subscribers of its weekly newsletter. The message did not include a reason for his upcoming departure.

Dobbins joined the Arlington, Va.-based Aluminum Association in March 2020 after having previously led the American Composites Manufacturers Association for 14 years. He succeeded Heidi Brock, who became CEO of the American Forest & Paper Association the previous year. The Aluminum Association reported $8 million in revenue in its 2019 tax filings, the most recent available.

The association has begun a search for a new CEO. In the meantime, an interim leadership team has been formed. Its members are Vice President of External Affairs Joe Quinn, Vice President of Market Growth & Development Ryan Olsen and Senior Director of External Affairs Matt Meenan.

"I have great confidence in our interim leadership team and the full association staff to continue to execute on behalf of the entire industry," Buddy Stemple, chair of The Aluminum Association's board of directors, said in a statement. "The team will continue its excellent work on the Aluminum Agenda policy roadmap, our Choose Aluminum sustainability campaign and other efforts."
