First job: Learning to lead

Johnson Mike Johnson, CEO of the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association, felt he was ready for leadership at a young age. "My first job was as day-camp counselor at a YMCA in Frankfort, Ky.," he said. "I actually went to the executive director of the Y as a 12-year-old going to the camp, and I said, ‘I think I'm ready to be a counselor.' "He said I was a little young, and I said, ‘I'm ready.'"
