From associations to the U.S. Senate and now returning to associations, former Nebraska senior also will moonlight as a PR adviser Ben Nelson, the new CEO of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, is not the first former association staffer to run for office, but he might be the most successful. In five years, Nelson went from being chief of staff of NAIC (a job he left in 1985) to governor of Nebraska (elected in 1990).
