Hicks finds voice by telling stories through quilting

Hicks, then an MBA student at the University of Michigan, was visiting her boyfriend in Cincinnati when she spotted a newspaper ad about an exhibit at the Taft Museum of Art featuring African-American story quilts. Sounds interesting, she thought, so the couple paid the museum a visit. "I walked into the museum and I saw that exhibit and I was like: I want to do this," she said.
