CEO COMPENSATION BY SECTOR
While median compensation is one tool to measure how associations in different sectors pay their chief executives, the distribution of compensation within the sector shows where the majority of CEO salaries cluster. For instance, 64 percent of CEO salaries at health care-related associations are clustered in the middle quarters. Nearly 60 percent of banking-related CEOs are paid in the top quarter, and just 9 percent are paid below the median for association CEOs. While trade groups tend to pay their CEOs more, it's not universal. The agriculture, food and natural resources sector is loaded with trade groups, yet 32 percent of CEOs earn in the bottom quarter of CEO pay.
