Kummerfeld was working in his garden in Jersey City, N.J., when he became ill in the intense heat, The New York Times reported. He was taken to the hospital, where he died. Cause of death was not released. Kummerfeld was one of the longest-tenured CEOs of the Magazine Publishers of America, later renamed MPA-The Association of Magazine Media.
