Fred Becker, CEO of the National Association of Federal Credit Unions, says he has two words of advice for association leaders looking to maximize access to key government officials: “Stay proactive.” That means that an association must “start at day one” when a new political administration takes over, and identify agency positions that will be important to the group’s issue focus. As soon as someone is appointed or confirmed to the position, “send them a congratulatory letter,” Becker advises.
