Study indicates CEO salary increases slow, bonuses drop

The latest compensation study from the American Research Company Inc. reports that the average association CEO pay continues to grow, but is rising at the slowest pace ever recorded in the 19 years of the study. “Salary increases are way, way down,” said Jeannine James, president of the Great Falls, Va.-based ARC.

Take a hard line on penalties when writing new contracts

In this buyer’s market, associations have leverage to press hotels for flexible terms and minimal attrition and cancellation penalties. Following are suggestions from two nonprofit-practice attorneys, Jerald Jacobs at Pillsbury and Lisa Hix at Venable: The best contract for an association is one free of attrition and cancellation charges. Ailing travel industries welcome bill creating nonprofit

Tourism and travel industries scored a victory Sept. 9 with Senate passage of the Travel Promotion Act, legislation which, if approved by the House and signed by the president, will create the Corporation for Travel Promotion, a nonprofit group to market the United States as an overseas travel destination.
