Associations escalate fight against new lobbying rules

Representatives from the American League of Lobbyists, the American Civil Liberties Union, and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington met Friday with Norman Eisen, the White House ethics advisor, to press for abatement of lobbying restrictions that were enacted by the Obama administration last month. “It was a very positive, first-step meeting,” said Dave Wenhold, president of ALL and co-founder of the lobbying firm Miller/Wenhold Capitol Strategies. “It was a frank and open discussion.”

Mullin announces retirement as industry groups merge

On the heels of an industry merger between the National Retail Federation and Retail Industry Leaders Association, NRF CEO Tracy Mullin has also announced she will retire by the end of the year. The announcement and Mullin’s retirement are tied to her contract ending by the end of 2009, said Scott Krugman, NRF’s vice president of industry public relations.
