Challenges shrink CEO tenure

Association leaders are serving less time in the top job, according to a new examination of turnover by Association Intel, the online database of associations, leader and salary information. In a sample of 1,476 nonprofit organizations, the tenure for trade groups averages 6.81 years now; in professional societies, leadership drops to 5.5 years. The average length of service for all nonprofit leaders is about 6.17 years.

Ethics survey finds misconduct in nonprofits

New 990 instructions out; comments invited

The Internal Revenue Service released draft instructions to its new Form 990 on April 8 that highlight requirements for compensation disclosure and independent status of board members. Public suggestions on the draft will be accepted until June 1. The 2008 form is significantly different from previous versions. The instructions clarify a “key employee” as one who earns at least $150,000 in compensation, has influence over the group, and manages at least a 5 percent segment of the organization.

New advertisements update perception of industries

In a new ad campaign from the American Egg Board (AEB), an enormous broken egg hatches a superwoman—she’s an office manager, mother, gardener and triathlete.
