Change, growth inside NAM

The National Association of Manufacturers has been shoring up its resources in the past year, adding revenue, new hires and shifting its internal leadership in the midst of significant turnover inside the trade group. The association increased revenue to $40.6 million in 2006, up 31 percent from $31 million in 2005, according to the association’s latest IRS tax filings, released in mid-September. Membership dues and assessments are also up 6 percent.

Museum exec highest paid in survey

Philippe de Montebello, director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, raked in $4.5 million in pay and benefits last year, becoming one of the highest paid nonprofit leaders in the country, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy’s annual survey of nonprofit leaders.

Salary, raises are highest in Washington groups

Association leaders based in Washington, D.C. garner better salaries and raises than their colleagues nationwide, according to the 2007 National Compensation Study released this week from the American Research Company. Pay raises for D.C.-based executives were 5.8 percent, significantly higher than CEOs in New York and Chicago, where pay rose 3.6 percent and 3.9 percent, respectively.

Sweeping ethics bill gets ink

More associations will need to get up to speed fast on new lobbying regulations and requirements as a result of the new ethics bill, said Jim Clarke, CAE, senior vice president of public policy for the American Society of Association Executives. Even before President Bush formally signed the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act of 2007 on Sept. 14, many trade groups and contract lobbyists said they had already enacted many of the new ethics rules.
