Clinton dodges shoe at scrap recycling event A protestor threw a shoe at former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton while she was addressing an audience gathered at the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries' annual convention in Las Vegas Thursday. She wasn't injured. According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Clinton took the protest in stride, joking afterward, "My goodness, I didn't know that solid waste management was so controversial."

Groups back bill to prevent mandatory GMO labeling Thirty-five associations and other organizations have endorsed a bill designed to limit state efforts to mandate labels for foods containing genetically modified organisms. The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act, which was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives, will establish a voluntary federal labeling standard for food and beverage products made with genetically modified ingredients.

NRF has made opposition to the Paycheck Fairness Act a key vote, meaning it will note how lawmakers vote on the bill in its annual legislative scorecard.

AMA will not sue on release of medical records The American Medical Association said Monday it would not sue to stop the release by Medicare of billing records for 880,000 physicians, according to the Associated Press. Medicare is scheduled to release the records Wednesday. AMA still opposes the move, telling the news agency that making the data public will do more harm than good.
