Lobbying expenses for nonprofits decline in third quarter

Spending by Grocery Manufacturers Association swells by 517 percent as the group fights Washington state ballot initiative Advocacy spending from tax-exempt organizations slipped in the third quarter of 2013, according to the latest LD-2 filings with the U.S. House of Representatives. Four of five associations and other nonprofits reported either a decline or the same lobbying expenditures for the second quarter. Expenditures by the American Bankers Association dropped 31 percent. American Sugar Alliance lobbying spending was cut in half in Q3 to $450,000, and Aerospace Industries Association spending fell 43 percent to $280,000, a two-year low.
