Gonchar unexpectedly departs ASTA after just 19 months
President calls his tenure a success but former board members say it was too short to judge; some say new direction needed The American Society of Travel Agentsstruggling for years with finances and membershipnow faces a search for a new CEO following the surprise departure of Tony Gonchar. He joined the $4.2 million-revenue group in January 2011nine months after the resignation of predecessor Bill Maloneybut on Aug. 6 Gonchar will become a vice president in American Express U.S. Consumer Travel Network.
