Group leaders say they will feel pain from budget move

As the two parties inch forward on talks, trade associations are actively opposing some spending cuts, fees and funding limits With Democrats and Republicans still unable to agree on next year’s budget, Congress passed another stopgap measure this week, one that will keep the government running at current year funding levels until April 8. Meanwhile, associations are staking out their positions, which in many cases means advocating against certain budget proposals that are currently included in the Obama administration’s proposed FY 2012 budget.

Independent lodging group to counter chains

By William Ehart The Independent Lodging Industry Association was launched March 8 to represent the interests of lodging owners who are not part of larger hotel chains. “Every year, laws are passed that impact the lodging industry,” the group said in a statement. “Chain hotels and corporate franchises have dominated the policymaking process and independently owned hotels currently do not have a seat at the table.”

Outgoing Cable Association CEO McSlarrow to join Comcast Kyle McSlarrow, departing president and CEO of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, will be joining Comcast Corp in April as president of Comcast/NBC Universal Washington, the company announced March 10. “I look forward to working with him as he leads our Washington public policy, legislative, and regulatory government affairs activities,” David L. Cohen, executive vice president of Comcast, said in a statement.
