New group of coal miner assns lobby Congress

A new coalition representing the mining industry is lobbying Congress over mine safety legislation introduced soon after last year’s passage of the MINER Act on safety standards. The Eastern Coal States Coalition, an ad-hoc group made up of mining associations from nine states, has been visiting Capitol Hill to convey their concerns about Congress’ oversight on safety and environmental issues in the industry.

Heidrick & Struggles posts double-digit growth

Executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles International reported $160.1 million in revenue for the second quarter this year, a 33.2 percent increase from the same quarter last year. The Chicago-based firm reported earnings of $21 million, or $1.11 per share, compared with earnings of $10.4 million, or 55 cents per share. Every sector of the company’s business, including international posts, reported double digit increases in revenue.
