Patent troll bill divides associations Most associations wants to see an end to patent trolling, but a bill currently before Congress is getting mixed reviews from business groups despite an attempt to address the problem. "Patent troll" is the term for individuals or businesses that acquire patents for the sole purpose of suing other businesses for alleged patent violations. In attempt to curtail the practice, House lawmakers are considering Innovation Act, which would shift much of the burden for enforcing patent claims on patent owners.

Tipton to receive government advocacy award International Dairy Foods Association CEO Connie Tipton has been named the recipient of 2014 Business-Government Relations Award, given by the Bryce Harlow Foundation to individuals who have excelled as advocacy professionals. The Washington, D.C.-based foundation is named after legendary lobbyist Bryce Harlow. It exists to advance the advocacy profession primarily through fellowships and mentoring programs for young people interested in lobbying.
