For years, members of the Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association and the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute talked about merging, but neither group could agree on an arrangement. A combined organization made sense to Jack Klimp, a retired Marine with a second career running nonprofit groups and associations. Both groups were grappling with certification and efficiency standards and the impact of climate change legislation on the entire heating, ventilation and air-conditioning industry.
