Profile: Jonathan Kempner, Mortgage Banker Assn

After 14 years in a stable organization, Jonathan Kempner wanted a new challenge. As head of the National Multi-Housing Council, Kempner had seen the organization mature and stabilize, from a staff size of four to 35 employees and membership increase from 100 to nearly 1,000. But at age 50, he jumped at the chance to lead the Mortgage Bankers Association. In the first year, he was charged with streamlining staff, correcting inefficiencies and uprighting MBA finances.
