Relationships among rival sweetener associations turn sour

Erickson Charging misleading advertising, two associations and five companies representing cane sugar producers have joined a lawsuit to stop a media campaign by the Corn Refiners Association that has been marketing corn syrup as a natural equivalent to sugar. The suit, filed by three sugar companies with the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles in April, says the campaign is an effort by corn processors to boost sinking sales of much-maligned high-fructose corn syrup.
