Washington, DC charities contribute to the economy

Charitable nonprofits in the Washington, D.C. area contribute $9.6 billion annually toward the economy in taxes and wages, according to a report released earlier this month. The sector also employed 218,000 people in metropolitan Washington D.C., home to 4,082 local and 3,532 national and international nonprofit organizations.
