The American Bankers Association has launched a series of free online courses to teach veterans and their spouses the skills they need to pursue careers in the banking industry.
"Transitioning Careers—Basic Bank Training for Veterans" consists of eight self-paced courses giving veterans and their spouses an introduction to banking by covering the basics of customer service, lending, payments and ethics. The free series debuted Monday, the Veterans Day federal holiday.
"This free training will make it even easier for banks to recruit and onboard veterans as well as active-duty military spouses," said Jim Edrington, ABA's chief member engagement officer. "Banks will benefit from the leadership, problem-solving and teamwork skills that every veteran learns from their service to the nation."
An estimated 230,000 to 245,000 U.S. military members enter civilian life each year, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. ABA developed the courses to assist veterans with their transition and to help banks tap into a community of talented job candidates.
