Founding members of the App Coalition included app developers Booking.com, Priceline and Kayak, according to the newspaper. The primary focus of the group is to open up eligibility in the federal Paycheck Protection Program to tech startups. Eligibility for federal aid is currently limited to companies with fewer than 500 employees, but startups backed by venture capital firms must add their investors' workforces to their own, often putting them over the limit.
"Companies as standalones that meet the threshold are being excluded," said Greg Guice, executive director of the App Coalition and senior vice president at McGuireWoods, the lobbying firm running the coalition.
Associations already exists for app developers—the Internet Association and ACT | The App Association being two—but the coalition believes those groups are dominated by tech giants such as Microsoft, Politico reported.
