Some big groups are in Washington, D.C., to make an impact on lawmakers and regulators, though there aren't nearly as many fly-ins scheduled as earlier in the month.
About 700 beer distributors from all 50 states are talking with congressional offices this week about excise taxes, stopping underage drinking and other issues. The National Beer Wholesalers Association will top off Capitol Hill visits Tuesday with a celebration at the neighborhood's historic Eastern Market.
Independent Community Bankers of America also expects a big turnout—nearly 1,000 bankers and advocates—for its Washington Policy Summit, starting Tuesday. Key issues include regulatory relief, cyber security and repealing "taxpayer-funded subsidies" for credit unions. On Thursday, attendees will hear from the directors of several regulatory agencies, including Richard Cordray of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
The National Cannabis Industry Association holds its policy symposium and member lobby days, beginning Tuesday. The National Association of Chemical Distributors also starts its fly-in Tuesday.
Other groups holding fly-ins or policy conferences this week include the Investment Program Association, Online Lenders Alliance, Emergency Nurses Association, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and IPC—Associations Connecting Electronic Industries.
