The $30 million-revenue Brewers Association has cut 17% of its staff in a second round of layoffs, industry publication Brewbound reported June 26.

The Boulder, Colo.-based association, which represents small and independent craft brewers, previously laid off 23% of staff and reduced managers' salaries in April.

Nine employees, including some who had worked at the group for 10 to 20 years, were let go in the June layoffs. Among them was Julia Herz, a well-known advocate for the craft-brewing industry, Brewbound reported.

By canceling three of its 2020 events and making Septemer's Great American Beer Festival virtual, the association lost 70% in annual revenue, the group's CEO Bob Pease stated in an email to members, according to Brewbound.

"With these reductions also comes some internal restructuring to streamline efficiencies and maximize our support to our members as we right-size the organization and best position the association for success in the coming years," Pease stated in the email, according to Brewbound.
