Fly-ins on Capitol Hill this week will have a youthful twist, with events geared for people under 40, teen entrepreneurs and for those young at heart.
A legislative conference starts today for the Auto Care Association's Young Auto Care Networking Group (YANG). Hill visits are Tuesday. The networking group for under-40 professionals was formed in 2014 and has about 750 members.
Hundreds of people are expected to attend the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Small Business Summit. Today's events include a start-up competition for really young entrepreneurs—seven students between the ages of 11 and 18. The students won regional contests in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) National Saunders Scholarship Competition. Other events include the Small Business of the Year Awards Luncheon Tuesday and Capitol Hill visits Wednesday.
Members of Congress and staff get a treat Wednesday when the International Dairy Foods Association hosts its 34th Annual Capitol Hill Ice Cream Party. IDFA, as part of its fly-in activities, plans to serve about 2,000 gallons of ice cream and frozen yogurt and 44 cases of sundae toppings. It will be the last fly-in as CEO for longtime IDFA leader Connie Tipton.
Other groups holding legislative events this week include the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists, National School Board Association and the United States Tour Operators Association.
