Name changes as industry expands into domestic markets

As the drone industry continues to grow, the association representing that industry is rebranding its signature trade show to reflect the growing presence of the technology in everyday life.

The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International announced Wednesday that its annual Unmanned Systems trade show will be renamed Xponential starting in 2016.

"Xponential encapsulates the tremendous growth and innovation in the unmanned systems industry, as well as the broad societal benefits of the technology," said Brian Wynne, CEO of AUVSI. "Xponential will help the world understand the potential of this industry by providing a single gathering place where people can see and interact with the technology and systems that will soon become part of our everyday lives."

The association noted that unmanned systems, drones and robotics are being increasingly used in a wide variety of domestic applications, from farming to helping first responders save lives. The group also said it plans to expand event offerings as part of the rebranding, some of which made their debut this year during AUVSI's show in Atlanta.
